BTT 005 - Visit Harar, Babile Elephant Sanctuary & Dire Dawa (3 days & 2 nights)

Day 1 Early morning, transfer to Bole Domestic Airport for your flight of 1 hour to Dire Dawa which is 510km of drive from Addis Ababa. In Dire Dawa you will be met at the airport and you will be transferred to Harar. Immerse yourself in the beauty of the city and amazing hospitality of its people. Taste their specialties (varieties of delicious sweets). Then drive on to Babile and the valley of Marvels. Here you will see many wonderful Ethiopian landscapes famous for their balancing rock formations. If you get there on Saturday they have a large market and a camel market on Mondays and Thursdays. After this amazing visit if you have time of day left you will witness beautiful Koremi, a village made out of stone houses set on top of plateau. When you are done return to Harar for overnight at the Heritage Plaza Hotel.

Day 2 Today is a great day to discover the hidden treasures in the narrow alleyways of the walled city of Harar, with its colorful markets, countless mosques and shrines and unique Harari people and homes. Then go to sites to visit the House of Rimbaud, Ras Tafari’s House, Ras Mekonnen’s Palace, the Harari National Cultural Center and the Tomb of Emir Nur, who built the famous Jugol as well as the wall. In the night you will get to visit the fascinating Hyena man who hand feeds the wild Hyenas just outside the wall of the city. This tradition started long ago to prevent these Hyenas from hunting for food in the town. Guests are welcomed and encouraged to feed the Hyenas themselves. Then get back to Heritage Plaza Hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3

In the morning after breakfast visit the last place of interest in Harar. After lunch depart to Dire Dawa. You will have a brief visit to lively market at Kefira before transferring to the airport for return flight to Addis Ababa.
